Reclaimed/Salvaged Pine Log House Ready to Build !!!

Tamlin’s prefabricated “heavy timber” pine log home concept was developed through discussions about how to be eco-friendly and utilize our existing pine trees that have been transformed into a light “blue stain” from the mountain pine beetle.   Our sustainable approach involves choosing very “DRY” pine beetle trees  which are often “dead standing”.  The allows the wood to dry naturally while maintaining the integrity of the structural properties — in other words this wood is still strong , and not rotten!  The main advantage in using  naturally “dried pine wood” is that most or all of the typical shrinkage and settling problems with logs is virtually eliminated ! So a 8-9 foot high wall does not settle 3-4 inches — rather the wall can be considered “fixed” for the most part.  Tamlin has been working on designing various prototypes of these special pine log buildings, and you can actually walk through one at our head office in Aldergrove (Langley) B.C.

Our custom designs have focused on keeping our intial log buildings very simple but functional , and even including a loft level with open vaulted ceilings and expansive windows . The  advantage in design simplicity is to keep costs as economical possible but also allow for a uniquess found only in a log cabin style building. Tamlin also can custom any building but having several popular models to start from or modify is often a time and cost saver. Check out one of our   current specials which is a prefabricated  1,000 square foot pine building with 10-12″ thick posts/beams and precut log components, already engineered for construction. This building will also  meet most building zone requirements in the new energy code for BC.

We can ship a typical log home “package” which includes the “Shell” of the building (log walls, structural roof, doors, windows, etc) directly to your site and also help you with construction.  For more information please contact Tamlin Homes Toll Free at 1-877-826-5461

WOW! Have a look at a new Milled Log Home shipped to Barrier Lake, B.C.

Tamlin’s new log home was first test fit and prefabricated in our own yard in Langley BC.  All logs were cut , pre-assembled, and built first to make sure 100% that everything fit perfect.   We even pre-drilled all the logs for electrical.  And we sealed the logs with a clear stain to protect them.

As you can see  once the log shell was constructed, we then took it apart piece by piece (or post & beam by post & beam!),  while LABELING every component.

Then we carefully packaged all the logs , wrapped them and loaded all the materials on a truck.   We included all the log walls, roof beams, doors, windows,  and even a pre-made set of open riser stairs!

log house shippingOur shipper loaded the truck and it arrived the next day in Barrier, BC. (north of Kamloops) . Our supervisor helped to unload the shipment with our clients who had a crane waiting.  Within only 4 days , all the log walls and roof structure was assembled !  Unbelievably fast!  The home owners were thrilled at how efficiently the logs were put together on site.

Frequently asked questions about milled log homes.

For this this style of post & beam/milled log home, we often get asked what equipment is required and how much the log components weigh.  A crane truck with a 45-60 foot extension is often used and the logs may weigh 200-600 pounds depending on the log lengths. We always recommend proper safety and to work slow and steady to make sure your logs are assembled the right way.

Perfect log home for DIY (Do it yourself ) building !  Yes you can build your own log home with our help! And our log homes pass the new energy code for B.C.  We will provide your permit plans, engineering and ship our pre-made log kit right to your site !

Ranger Cabin Project A Success

The Ranger Cabin Project was a success. With Tamlin’s planning, design and knowledge of remote building, this job was no different.

‘The jobs we get in these remote locations are only making us stronger and I am confident we are a step ahead of our competition……….says, Paul Tabuchi.”

Tamlin was awarded the ranger cabin project on Vancouver Island close to Port McNeill in the Cape Scott Provincial Park. This project was tricky as all the lifts had to be in 750-900 lb manageable sizes for the helicopter access site. This cabin is right on the ocean where there are severe storms throughout the year. The cabin will only be occupied 3-4 months out of the year by park rangers and the public. The cabin was built on a concrete pier system that is designed for sandy ground conditions and is perfect for remote builds. Tamlin is remote build specialists that can find a solution for most remote builds. The Cape Scott Ranger cabin is complete now, and it turned out amazing! Gulf Island Cabin Update!

The Cabin on Cortes Island is just about complete now. The homeowners anticipate completion in the next few weeks and are very happy with the crew that has constructed this cabin. Tamlin supplied the weather tight lock up shell and some interior finishes such as the pine boards for the interior walls, casings, baseboard, trim and the flooring. The homeowners preferred to use as many local suppliers and sub trades as possible to construct the cabin. This cabin had some minor modifications to accommodate their guests. These modification were an extra dormer on in the room in the loft, and a framed walled to make the loft into two rooms. This gave the cabin three bedrooms, a kitchen, bathroom and space for a stacking washer and dryer. The post and beams and exterior walls are solid reclaimed douglas fir.

Cold Lake Alberta Cedar Log Home Update

Progress is great on this amazing cedar log home.  The log home sits majestically in the middle of a large piece of property in Cold Lake Alberta. The roof is on now, and the homeowners will have the exterior stained a rich beautiful red color, which will accent the natural cedar color. Tamlin supplied the log home and assisted with arrangements for a construction crew to build the home. This building crew has helped Tamlin on many projects in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario, and we are never disappointed with their skills, dedication and efficiency. If you are thinking about building, but are concerned with having a home package shipped from BC, worry no more! We are happy to put you in contact with one of our crews when you buy a package from us.

Thetis Island Renovation Update!

Progress is great on this major renovation and the homeowners are very pleased with how smoothly everything is going. We couldn’t have asked or better weather for this project either! Now that the weather has turned in to fall rain and wind, the interior finishing is getting under way. Did you know that Tamlin can per-manufacture tons of components in a home so that in the winter months, getting the home to weather tight lock up stage is fast and saves time on on-site labor costs? We were fortunate that this project happened in the summertime, so there was not a rush to beat the bad weather. If you are thinking about building or renovating, give us a call. We would love to give you information on our process and tell you how we can keep your project on time and on budget.

Thetis Island Renovation

This is a full renovation that is underway on Thetis Island now. Tamlin has built on Thetis before and is very familiar with remote island access and the logistics of such builds. We also have an amazing transportation company that we use for all of our remote builds. He has a truck that fits onto most of the ferries and their height and length restrictions. The homeowners wanted to maintain the waterfront look of this unique cabin and incorporate the original front framed portion to fit into the redesign. The homeowners had outgrown the quaint cabin and wanted a new and larger living space. This new layout has timber frame components and is much larger and open that is was before. The renovation is going and smoothly, on time and on budget. Stay tuned for more updates.
